Preparing for a New Day- Are You Content with The Servant of the Lord?
Dear Church Family and Friends,
As we further our study through the Book of Isaiah, we watch the nation of Judah slowly, but surely, walking away from God. They idolized their “stuff”, the wealth of their country, and the security it provided them. They continued to go to the temple, but their worship was lost.
In the middle of all this, the prophet Isaiah continues to reveal the coming Messiah, Jesus. He uses a new title to describe Him: “The Servant of the Lord”. This Servant will be a light to all who acknowledge Him to the ends of the earth. He will restore His people and return them to their land. But the people were too busy to listen. They were tirelessly pursuing and achieving their personal happiness. They were even complaining that the Lord had forgotten them. They were NOT content.
Contentment isn’t about sipping a cup of Joe by the fire and enjoying a good read. It’s not about how many deals you closed last week or how cool you look in that new ride you own. And it’s not even about how perfectly behaved your children are in public or how many hours you spent at the gym to refine that chiseled or shapely body. In fact, contentment has nothing to do with how you look, what you have, or what you do. Not that any of the above is wrong. Yet, the concept of contentment is much bigger than all of this.
On Sunday, we will consider where true security, worth, and satisfaction are found… where true contentment is realized. Here’s a hint: it’s not in what you own but to whom you belong.
Love and prayers,
Pastor Bruce
