Focus and Following--Do Your Best and Trust God for the Rest

Dear Church Family and Friends,

As we continue to walk through the Gospel of Luke, we find ourselves at a turning point in Jesus’ ministry where He shifts His focus. He continues teaching to large crowds of people, mentoring His disciples and showing sympathy to the poor, the despised, the hurt and the sinful. He continues to heal the sick and call out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders. But His mission ultimately is Jerusalem where He will be rejected, tried and crucified.

Along this journey, Jesus prepares those willing to listen for a world that will be changed. A world that will include a pathway, through repentance and forgiveness, which leads directly back to God the Father. It's a pathway paved by Jesus' death and resurrection. It is not what the people were expecting and yet, it is exactly what the people needed.

Jesus was calling people to follow Him, to be disciples. Some believe they can pick and choose among God’s Word and follow Him selectively. But that's not how it works; you are either all in or not in at all. This Sunday we will consider what it means to really be a follower of Jesus; right now, in this current worldwide cultural war between truth and deception. We must count the cost, do our best, and trust God for the rest.

Love and prayers,

Pastor Bruce
