PASSING IT ON - Leaving a Legacy
Dear Church Family and Friends,
This week we will be wrapping up our series entitled “Passing It On”. Last week Bruce Wegner spoke on “Speaking Truthfully”. This week we’ll focus on “Leaving a Legacy”.
We’ll be looking at what scripture has to say not only about legacy, but also about grandparents and their important role in the family and the life of the church.
Mary and I were captivated by the central message of the Legacy Coalition three years ago when we were invited to attend their annual “Grandparenting Matters” summit conference. It was there we were first introduced to the concept of “Intentional Christian Grandparenting” and
began learning how to do just that. Up to that point, we tended to leave the discipleship of our grandchildren up to chance, when an opportunity arose. We found that, unless you’re looking out for that opportunity, it may just pass you by.
“Faith passing” happens in the context of real life, not just one hour on Sunday. Creating a faith legacy must happen in that same context. So now, when we spend time with the grandkids, we try to stay very much “in the moment” looking for opportunities to connect that moment with God’s truth. Nothing unnatural, contrived or “stilted”.
I’ll also be sharing some practical “How to” tips on sharing your faith and passing on your faith legacy: activities, games (yes, games!), trips, videos, etc.
I look forward to seeing you there!
