"Starting Point"
Dear Church Family and Friends,
Where do we start when engaging the lost? We’re to shine our light to a lost and hopeless world! What is our light? Is our light our knowledge of scripture? Is our light our personal confidence in our eternity? In Jesus’ day, the Jew’s believed their light was in following God’s law, but Jesus challenged their thinking. Jesus, at His last teaching to His disciples, before His betrayal and crucifixion, gave all of us a new definition of light.
The light of the world is LOVE (John 13:34)! And we shine that light when we love! Many of us were taught that our love for the world is manifested by our desire to keep the world and its people from going to hell. Jesus tells us that the love He’s talking about is shown by caring and compassion.
I’ve been a follower of Jesus for 50 years now, and I’ve been taught our starting point is the source of the lost’s needs, their suffering, and their pain, SIN. If we are followers of Jesus, our starting point with the lost is their needs, their suffering, and their pain.
